Solvents and thinners are often used in coatings, and they have the following differences.

• The solvent can independently dissolve the film-forming substance in the coating, while the diluent only plays a diluent role, which can only dilute the on-site solution and reduce the viscosity of the coating.

• Solvent is a component in the paint, which has been added to the paint in accordance with the specified proportion when the paint is completed, and the diluent is generally added to the paint during the construction process, in order to change the viscosity of the paint, improve the operating efficiency or adapt to the needs of a certain construction method.

• In general, solvents can also be used as diluents, but some diluents may not be used as solvents. Therefore, we can not blindly add solvents and diluents to the paint as the same thing.

• The diluent and solvent used in different coatings are different, and sometimes the diluent of this coating may just be the solvent of another coating, which should be used in strict accordance with the process regulations.
